Outcomes of Community-based Mentoring Programs

Of our “Littles” who have participated in at least an 18-month mentoring relationship in a Big Brothers or Big Sisters community-based mentoring program, the following results have been realized:

  • 54% are more likely to say “no” to drugs
  • 73% are more likely to refuse alcohol
  • 48% are more likely to stay in school
  • 70% are more likely to choose conflict resolution over violence
  • More say they are confident in their performance in school work
  • More say they get along better with their families
  • Minority Littles are 70% less likely than their peers to initiate drug use.
